Abstract

This article explores the theoretical foundations and importance of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, or the Indian Knowledge System. It’s one of the guiding principles for making India self-reliant in the future, which coincides with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It aligns with the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means ‘the world is one family’. The Bharatiya Gyan Parampara integrates various disciplines of science, philosophy, medicine, economics, spirituality, and architecture. The article outlines the chronological evolution of IKS from Vedic insights to the application of IKS in modern technology. It not only gives knowledge about Ayurveda, yoga, medicine, Jyotish Shastra, and Vastu Shastra but also teaches us how to foster self-development and societal harmony. The section highlights the direct contribution of indigenous knowledge towards technical processes, health, economic, political, and ecological sovereignty. Through case studies like the Eklavya project and CSIR’s Ayurvedic initiatives, it underscores the important revival and inclusion of IKS principles and theories. The NEP 2020 is mentioned as a guiding light and a catalyst which advocates IKS for all-round development of learners in the domain of critical thinking, ethics, capacity development, and problem-based learning. The deep thoughts, insights, and sutras of living life have helped people in the world to be more positive and balanced in this fast-paced world. The article wraps up by tracing the future potency and a research strategy aiming for governance modernization, performing global citizenship education and globalization, and ensuring that it is not only a cultural heirloom but also a metamorphic indigenous paradigm for human welfare across the globe.
